The AmstelveenZ Spring Marathon (AmstelveenZ Lentemarathon) makes its way around Amstelveen, Amsterdam Forest (Amsterdamse Bos) and the outermost edge of the Dutch capital on a picturesque course, cheered on by crowds of spectators.
Get outdoors and experience the AmstelveenZ Lentemarathon
The marathon route will lead runners past beautiful locations in Amstelveen, so a view of the marathon can easily be combined with a visit to Amsterdam Forest - it coincides with that special time of year when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, so it's your chance to see the forest at its most scenic.
Amateurs and professionals will be running side by side in the marathon, so spectators will be able to see some of the best athletes in the world as well! There's a full marathon, a half marathon and a relay race. It's an ideal event for families with kids who are into running because there's also a kid's race.
Running the scenic route
The AmstelveenZ Spring Marathon begins on the running track at Startbaan Athletics Association, Amstelveen, wandering through the Amsterdam Forest and skirting around the city limits of Amsterdam. The route meanders out towards the Bovenkerkerpolder and back towards the heart of Amstelveen. The running route is completely on paved or asphalt paths.
The day after the race, Amsterdam Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off at Bloesempark in Amsterdam Forest. It's well worth taking a detour to get a glimpse of the cherry blossoms in all their glory!
