NS: No trains running via Amsterdam Zuid, fewer trains to Schiphol

Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has announced that, from November 13 to November 27, no trains will be running to or from Amsterdam Zuid as a result of maintenance work being carried out on the track. The work will also affect train travel to and from Schiphol Airport.

Services to Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol affected from Sunday

As of Sunday, no trains will be running via Amsterdam Zuid for a period of 15 days as ProRail carries out maintenance work on part of the track between the train station and Schiphol Airport. NS has also warned that the work means fewer trains will be running between Schiphol and the Dutch capital

NS has reminded passengers that they’ll still be able to get to Schiphol Airport by travelling via Amsterdam Centraal, and has emphasised that Zuid will still be accessible by metro and other public transport services. The rail operator will be running additional services between Amsterdam Centraal, Schiphol and Utrecht in order to accommodate for the disruption.

International rail services will also be affected by the changes: “The Intercity to Brussels runs via Rotterdam Central and the Intercity to Berlin, Thalys and Eurostar run with changed departure and arrival times via Amsterdam Centraal,” the NS press release explains.

NS tells travellers to avoid rush hour and adjust travel plans

“Travellers have to deal with track changes, detours, an extra transfer or replacement transport and also with extra crowds in the trains and at stations,” NS writes, advising passengers to avoid travelling during rush hour in order to limit crowds as much as possible and reminding them to make use of the NS journey planner on its website and app.

Finally, passengers with a valid NS ticket will be able to take the 50, 51 and 52 metro lines at no additional cost.
