Our client is an emerging global food company, with Net Sales in excess of $600 million globally, operating across a range of categories including specialty rice, organic foods and convenience rice based products. The Company is engaged in milling, processing and marketing of branded and non-branded basmati rice, and manufacturing of rice food products in India & international market. They have a global presence including India, Middle East, United Kingdom, Europe and United States. Their operations include contract farming, procurement, storage, processing, packaging and distribution. Their rice product portfolio comprises brown, white, steamed, parboiled, organic, quick cooking brown rice, and ready-to-heat rice.
In this position, you will be responsible for repairing and installing production/manufacturing equipment; inspect equipment for proper functioning and perform preventative maintenance duties per the manufacturer's specifications; diagnoses equipment malfunctions and make repairs or adjustments as needed.
This position requires continuous work near heat and noise, frequent lifting, climbing, standing, walking, crouching, squatting, bending and kneeling.

Note that the role may also require weekend and holiday work.

Job Profile for Packaging Operator

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Meet and exceed the 8 hour shift productivity goal of the plant
  • Participate in a safety conscious effort to rotate team members through highly repetitive assignments
  • Monitor activities on the production lines, immediately reporting downtimes to maintenance or team lead or line supervisor when downtime cannot be corrected by the operator
  • Be responsible for insuring all finished goods meet finish product specification
  • Facilitate good communication and planning to ensure that changeovers are done timely and efficiently
  • Be certified to operate a fork truck during routine job duties
  • Be able to identify and stage necessary packing supplies for production runs. You are responsible for routine cleaning and minor adjustment of packing equipment
  • Participate in packing supply inventories and help reconcile discrepancies
  • Be cross-trained on large and small pack lines
  • Maintain a functional knowledge of all equipment in the packaging department
  • Set up and operate packaging machines
  • Stack packaged products in case / on pallets
  • Identify bags / case / pallets according to GMP
  • Perform inventory of raw ingredients / packaging materials / finished products in bins, silos and racks (cyclical and period end inventories)
  • Perform daily monitoring swabs (M swabs) as required
  • Perform area-related equipment first level maintenance
  • Work closely with the extruder operator in order to maintain the highest efficiency of the plant for completion of the production planning
  • Full knowledge of packaging operations (Paper bag machines, Plastic bag machines, Sampling machine, On-Process Check-Weigher, Inkjet, Labeller, Wrappers, Screeners, Scales, Quality control, Forklift / Pallet truck operations, Packaging materials / Finished goods…)
  • Cleanliness & tidiness:
    • Perform Housekeeping checks to ensure compliance to 5S
    • Perform operational cleaning operations
    • Change over cleaning
    • Daily/Weekly cleaning
  • You are responsible for understanding the safe and efficient operation of all packaging equipment. Properly monitor and document down time by cause. Ensure production report accuracy, including neat and timely completion of daily production reporting requirements. Report all safety near misses or accidents to the shift supervisor. Perform in-line quality checks
  • You are responsible for all other job tasks assigned by shift manager or lead

Candidate Profile for Packaging Operator

  • Fluent English written and spoken
  • Training and/or experience in functional tasks (opt: knowledge of feed/food industry)
  • Leadership, good communication, cost conscious, initiative, self-motivated, team player, safety & hygiene & quality conscious, technically inclined, unrestricted range of motion, colour discrimination, olfactory & texture perception, depth perception, tolerance to hot environment
  • Ensuring timely, accurate updating and maintenance of information related to department performance
  • Basic qualifications:
    • 3 years’ experience on Rovema/Bosch machines
    • Worked with Robotic palletiser
