Tenure Track position in Host-Microbe Interactions

We are looking for someome to lead research on host-microbe interactions involving symbiotic or pathogenic microbes which are important in health and disease.

The Host-Microbe Interactomics (HMI) group of the Department of Animal Sciences is looking to appoint a new staff member, to be appointed in 'tenure track'. The groups mission is to decipher the mechanisms that underlie the interplay between specific pathogenic or commensal members of the microbiota and the human or animal host, including the influence of diet. The group has an excellent track-record in research-quality and scientific impact.

Tenure Track is without doubt an excellent stepping stone to further develop yourself and your academic career and benefit from the infrastructure and collective expertise of an established Chair group. Depending on your experience, you will start in Tenure Track as an Assistant or Associate Professor and reach Full Professor over a period of five to twelve years. You will be offered specific training and mentorship. As only the most talented researchers are accepted in Tenure Track, this will be a good stepping stone to a further career within Wageningen University & Research or elsewhere.

Currently, the group consists of about 30 people including 3 staff members, 3 permanent technical staff. The group combines expertise in molecular microbiology, microbiomics and functional (meta-) genomics, cell biology and immunology and employs bioinformatic and computational approaches to unravel molecular mechanisms of pathogenic or beneficial host-microbe interactions in different animal or human hosts. The HMI group has well-equipped biosafety level 2 labs and state-of-the-art flow cytometery, histology, (confocal and live-imaging) microscopy and cell and organoid culture facilities. High quality housing and experimental facilities for small and large animal experiments are located in adjacent buildings. CAT-Agro technology Centre for Advanced Technology provides supported access to a wide range of other adavanced scientific equipment (e.g., mass spectrometry, next generation sequencing).


We are looking for an ambitious and enthusiatic scientist to lead and develop cutting-edge research synergizing with the mission and current staff expertise at HMI. Applicants with expertise in appropriate methodologies, models and, or with a track record of research in host-microbe interactions. Applicants should have a track record in obtaining research funding, supervising PhD students and/or post-doctoral researchers and ideally national and international collaborations. Candidates are expected to have very good level of spoken and written English and an excellent publication record commensurate with career stage and experience. Didactic skills, experience in Univeristy Education and international mobility are desirable but not obligatory.

We aspire to attract scientific talent and to stimulate and support their development. We offer a temporary 7 year contract with the possibility of extension and a permanent position. The salary will depend on expertise and experience. Gross salary for Assistant Professors is from €3,637 to €5,656 per month and for Associate Professors from €5,039 to €6,738 per month based on full time employment. Work Hours:

38 hours per week
