Postdoc Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy

As a Postdoctoral Researcher at the TU Delft Reactor Institute, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the scientific utilization of our Positron facilities. You will become an acknowledged expert in the field of position techniques and your key responsibilities will include:

  • User Support and Training: You will provide training and assistance to users, guiding them in utilizing the Positron facilities effectively for their research endeavors.
  • Data Interpretation and Analysis: Analyzing scientific data generated by experiments, you will offer insights and guidance to users, aiding in the interpretation of results and recommending strategies for sample preparation and data analysis.
  • Instrument Optimization: Collaborating closely with users and instrument technicians, you will contribute to the adaptation and optimization of the Positron facilities to maximize experimental outcomes.
  • Continuous Development: Drive improvements in the Positron facilities, focusing on enhancing resolution, accuracy, and measurement speed through the introduction of innovative detection designs and sample environments.
  • Promotion and Networking: Promote our facility within the global scientific community by participating in conferences, organizing workshops, and disseminating research findings through publications. Establish and nurture relationships with universities, research institutes, and industry partners in the Netherlands, showcasing the value of positron-based research for R&D activities.

You will work closely with a dedicated team of technicians and fellow researchers, fostering a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation. In addition, you will receive training and support to expand your expertise and excel in your role. We intend to secure additional funding enabling transition of this postdoctoral position into a permanent instrument scientist position within three years.


You hold a PhD in a subject related to physical science, life science, materials science, engineering or another relevant field.

  • You have experience in the field of positron annihilation spectroscopy (or a closely related field) gained in previous research and development roles, in-depth knowledge of the potential of the technique and a drive to learn all there is to know about positron annihilation spectroscopy for state-of-the art future development and optimization.
  • You have a keen interest in the other techniques and instruments used at the TU Delft Reactor Institute, enabling you to harness the full potential of our facilities for our users and build the best possible solutions as a team.
  • You have a drive to contribute to research and education, and become a nationally and internationally acknowledged expert in the field of positron techniques.
  • You harness your communication and social skills to interact with users whom you’ll train, support and advise.
  • You enjoy building and maintaining a network of potential users, focusing on strengthening the radiation-related research capabilities of the Dutch academic world and industry in particular.
  • You have a good command of English as you will be working in an international community and supporting students and researchers from across the globe.  

Salary Benefits:

  • An A salary based on scale 10 of the collective agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities between €3,226 and €5,090 gross per month, plus an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
