Whether you like to keep things traditional, or you have bad mobile signal in your local area, you might want to get a landline phone in the Netherlands. Here's what you need to know.

Phone line (landline) providers in the Netherlands

The following companies all offer landline phone connections in the Netherlands:

  • Ziggo
  • Youfone

Getting a fixed phone line

Many companies nowadays offer deals that bundle mobile phone, internet and fixed phone line connections in one bundle. If you need a fixed phone line, it's worth looking for a provider that can offer all of the solutions you need.

Fixed lines in the Netherlands are mostly provided by KPN; all the other providers own rights to some lines.

Normally, there will already be a fixed phone line already set up in your house. If not (for instance if it's a newly-built property), the company may need to send out a technician to set one up for you. There is normally an additional fee for this service.

There are different types of landline contracts; always check the balance between monthly fixed costs and per minute calling fees. It's also worth noting that, as a rule, you have to subscribe for at least 12 months when taking out a new fixed phone line contract. Be sure to check the terms and conditions before signing a contract.

In order to get a phone line you need to provide:

  • Valid proof of identity (not a driving licence)
  • Residence permit (if applicable)
  • Rental contract
  • Employment contract (if applicable)
  • Bank account (details or card)
