The Lauwerecht is an extension of the Oudegracht and Bemuurd Weerd, north of the city center. Previously, Lauwerecht was an out-of-court court and an independent rural community. Today, Lauwerecht as a neighborhood is part of the sub-district Votulast, whose name is a collection of the first two letters of the neighborhoods Vogelenbuurt, Tuinwijk, Lauwerecht and Staatsliedenbuurt. Lauwerecht was formed by development on the east bank of the Vecht, from the Utrecht city center. The neighborhood is bounded to the south by the Utrecht city center (Weerdsingel), to the west by the Vecht, to the north by railway between Utrecht Central station and Overvecht station and to the east by the Talmalaan and the Hopakker.
