When you move to a new country, it’s important to learn how its emergency services work, even if hopefully you'll never need them. On this page you can find information on the emergency services in the Netherlands, and numbers you should call in case of an emergency.

Emergency number 112

If you moved to the Netherlands from a European country, it’s likely nothing will change for you. The main emergency number the Netherlands, as in most European countries, is 112. This will get you through to the police, fire brigade and ambulance services. 

Dutch police

The police in the Netherlands fulfil several roles, such as maintaining public order, offering assistance to people under threat, and enforcing criminal law.

Police number in the Netherlands

If you have an emergency that requires the police, you should call the emergency number 112. If you don’t have an emergency, but you still need to contact the police, you can call 0900 8844. In the Netherlands, it’s also possible to report certain crimes online.

Medical & Dental emergencies in the Netherlands

If you are in need of an ambulance, you should call 112. For different types of medical emergencies, there are different procedures. Find out what to do in case of a medical or dental emergency.
