A record number of people in the Netherlands have a driving licence
The number of people with a driving licence reached a record high in 2022, and the oldest driver in the Netherlands is a whopping 106 years old!
Oldest driver in the Netherlands is 106 years old
According to figures collected by the National Road Transport Agency (RDW) and municipalities across the country, the number of drivers in the Netherlands rose from less than 11,1 million at the beginning of 2022 to over 11,6 million by the end of last October.
The province with the most drivers is South Holland (2,3 million), followed by North Holland and North Brabant (both 1,8 million). Zeeland, on the other hand, is home to the fewest drivers (269.325). South Holland is also home to the oldest driver: a 106-year-old who was designated as medically fit and so is still able to drive on Dutch roads - whether or not they actually do so is unknown.
