The Netherlands will see freezing temperatures this weekend
After a fairly mild few weeks in the Netherlands, temperatures are set to drop sharply over the coming weekend, with some weather experts even going so far as to suggest ice skating may become possible on canals in several Dutch cities.
Between -1 and -9 degrees on the night between January 6 and 7
During the night of January 6 to 7, temperatures are predicted to drop sharply across the Netherlands, with temperatures in the north dropping as low as -6 degrees celsius according to Weerplaza. The weather in the south of the country is also expected to drop significantly, but only down to around -1.
But according to NOS weather expert Roosmarijn Knol, the temperature drop could actually be even more extreme. "A number of ice days are even possible in the north of our country," Knol expects. The weather expert thinks that temperatures could be "possibly up to -8 or perhaps even -9 degrees" over the coming weekend.
Ice skating could be possible in some places
Though the cold weather might make you want to curl up in a ball, the ice might put smiles on the faces of any keen skaters. The cold weather is expected to make it possible to skate on natural ice.
Kinderdijk, Kampen and Wageningen are examples of places close to the major rivers where you can skate, according to NOS. This is due to the high water level, which means that there are flooded pieces of land in those places.
