People with jobs in the Netherlands take an average of three weeks off every summer to go on holiday, NU reports.

Workers in the Netherlands ready for summer holidays

The school holidays are officially here, meaning that families across the country are ready to pack their bags and head off on their holidays. Whether you’re going home to visit family, are driving down to a campsite in the south of France, or are opting for a staycation this year, taking time off work over the summer is easily one of the highlights of every worker’s year.

But with the Netherlands’ rather meagre offerings when it comes to public holidays, how many days off work do people actually take over the summer? Well, according to NU, the average Dutchie takes a rather luxurious three weeks off!

Dutch employment contracts offer an average of 25 days off

Employers in the Netherlands are required to offer workers a minimum of 20 days holiday every year, although NU notes that the average in the Netherlands sits a little higher, with employment contracts offering an average of 25 holidays a year for full-time employees

Talking to NU, Pascal Besselink, an employment lawyer at DAS, said that a three-week break was typically the norm in the Netherlands, “but that does not mean that it is not possible to take longer holidays.”
