It’s not all about dogs: the most popular cat names in the Netherlands have been revealed. From Luna to Coco, these were the feline favourites for cat parents in 2024.

Cartoons remain source of inspiration for Dutch cat names

If you felt left out hearing about the most popular dog names, you’ll be glad to hear that there’s a list for cat names too! Based on data gathered from over 35.000 cat owners in the Netherlands, pet insurance company Figo has compiled a list of the most popular and funniest titles for their kitties, noting that cartoons, food and street language continue to be an inspiration for the purr-fect name.

In this year’s ranking, Simba has dethroned Luna as the number one cat name in the country after two years at the top. Many of the other names have been on the list for years. Some of the unique and paw-sitively funny names this year include “Hello Kitty”, “Drumstick”, “Peukie”, “Pannenkoek” and “Ratatoetje”.

Figo launches pet name generator

When you bring your four-legged family member home for the first time, it can be a challenge to find the best name to show their cattitude. That’s why Figo launched their pet name generator to help cat and dog owners find a title for their fur babies.

After answering some questions about your new pet in the Netherlands, such as their personality, size and favourite activity, users receive a list of personalised name options. “Choosing a name for your pet is a special moment,” said Paul Kager of Figo in a press release. “With the Pet Name Generator, we not only make this process easier, but also surprisingly fun. And yes, there could be a funny name like Habiba or Fatoe among them!”

  2. Luna
  3. Nala

  5. Milo
  6. Bella
