Influencers & bloggers in the Netherlands

With the internet and social media forming an important part of our lives, it can be helpful to turn to influencers and bloggers when you want to learn more about life in the Netherlands. Whether it’s for information on which cities to visit or for pure entertainment value, here are some expat blogs and influencers in the Netherlands that will help you feel less alone. 

International & Dutch influencers

While scrolling through TikTok, YouTube or Instagram, you might come across a few of these influencers. From internationals making content for other expats to Dutchies who take the world by storm - here are some international and Dutch influencers to look out for:

Nikkie de Jager (NikkieTutorials)

One of the most well-known make-up influencers in the world, Nikke de Jager, also known as NikkieTutorials, was born and raised in the Netherlands, where she became an international content creator. Nikkie even hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020. If you enjoy watching makeup and beauty tutorials, you’ll love her content on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

Somi Lynda (driplist)

You might recognise Somi Lynda from her comedic sketches about typical Dutch life. Also known as driplist, the international influencer makes content about topics such as how to prepare for your Dutch citizenship ceremony, cycling in the Netherlands and more.

Kamil (wannabeamsterdammer)

Living in the Netherlands can be difficult with ups and downs so why not have a laugh at the same time? As wannabeamsterdammer, Kamil explores day-to-day life in Amsterdam, from the gloomy weather to the struggle with choosing between “het” and “de” when learning Dutch.

Derek Scott Mitchell (Double Dutch)

Double Dutch is well-known in the Netherlands for his wide array of accents used in skits about the quirks of the Dutch and life in the lowland country that make you laugh until your belly hurts. Derek Scott Mitchell, the person behind the account, is a stand-up comedian who was born in the US, raised in the Netherlands and now lives in the UK.

Nate and Katrina

Nate and Katrina are an American couple living in the Netherlands. They post sarcastic videos and reels about their travels. From fun facts about Dutch cities they visit, to reviews of regional Dutch snacks, their content is entertaining, to say the least.

Matheus Santana

From the never-ending delays in public transport to the odd things you can find in Dutch supermarkets, Matheus Santana covers it all. The Brazilian makes videos that entertain and inform at the same time, sometimes even covering important events that appear in the news.

Dutch Americano

Ava, also known as Dutch Americano, is originally from New York and moved to the Netherlands with her Dutch partner. Here she continued her career in higher education and got married to her now wife. Dutch Americano content on YouTube and Instagram covers a wide variety of topics, from having a baby and the cost of living in the Netherlands to more funny takes on less serious subjects, such as the lack of seasoning in Dutch food or the way Dutchies make social plans months in advance.

Claudia Arroyo (Latina in the Netherlands)

Known for making funny, relatable videos about life in the Netherlands, Claudia Arroyo, also known as Latina in the Netherlands, is a Peruvian who moved to the Netherlands in 2005. Married to a Dutch man and the mother of a teenage daughter, she gives a view of the ins and outs of life as a settled expat with some humour sprinkled in.

Rashi Agarwal Favier

Another stand-up comedian who makes comedic videos on social media for us to enjoy, Rashi Agarwal Favier is an Indian who lives in Amsterdam, finding the humour in everyday moments. From cycling in the rain to reading letters from the Dutch tax office (Belastingdienst), you can laugh - and cry - along with her about life in the Netherlands.

Browney

One of the most popular fitness influencers in the Netherlands, viewers might not go to Browney’s channels to learn about filing taxes, but his videos are likely to give you an inside look at how much the Dutch like to keep active. The Dutch YouTuber is known for completing tough workout challenges and collaborations with other fitness celebrities.

The Bennets (the dunglish couple)

The Bennets are a binational couple: Maxim is from the Netherlands and Mike is from the US and together they have dubbed themselves the dunglish couple. From learning the language as a non-Dutchie to tasting traditional Dutch foods for the first time, they bring you along as they take on life in the Netherlands together.

Jordan Guerrero (jedutchy)

Learning Dutch can be a struggle, but with influencers making fun videos on the language it can be fun. A native online Dutch teacher, Jordan Guerrero posts content as jedutchy that can easily help you improve your pronunciation and vocabulary in just a few seconds.

Not Just Bikes

Not Just Bikes is a channel that tells you all the reasons why Dutch cities are great, going beyond cycling to urban planning and other experiences. So when the weather is grey and everything is getting more expensive, the videos by Jason Slaughter are a reminder of just how wonderful the Netherlands is.

Bloggers in the Netherlands

With short videos becoming more popular, bloggers are not as common in the Netherlands as they once used to be. But for those who still prefer to read about all things Dutch, here are some bloggers in the Netherlands you should check out: 

A Wanderlust for Life

A Wanderlust for Life is the blog by Jessica, an American who moved to Amsterdam more than 10 years ago. Read her articles for tips on travel destinations in the Netherlands and fun activities that you can enjoy.

AmsterdamFoodie

If you love food and are always looking for a new spot in Amsterdam for a delicious meal, then the AmsterdamFoodie is the blog for you. With a guide on restaurants in the Dutch capital and a new restaurant mentioned every month, you’ll never go hungry!

Amsterdam Wonderland

Amsterdam Wonderland is a blog run by Tracy from the UK and Marc from the Netherlands. Together, they hope to steer you to the best parts of Amsterdam, where everyone in the family can have a good time. 

Amsterdamian

In this lifestyle and photography blog, readers can learn about all things Amsterdam. With Amsterdamian, you can explore the life, people and streets of the Dutch capital without leaving your seat - though the aim is to give you the urge to discover the city for yourself.

Culture Tourist

An art and culture travel blog, Culture Tourist is run by art historian Tea. From travel guides to reviews of museums, you can discover the best of the Netherlands and other European destinations.

I am not a tourist

I am not a tourist is a blog created to show the real side of life in the Netherlands by an international blogger who has lived in the country too long to be called a tourist and not long enough to be known as a local. The blog covers events, history and culture, and also features quirky stories from other expats.

Not sure which spots to visit in the various Dutch cities? Read Liz’s blog called I Becoming Dutch as she embraces Dutch history, tradition and culture while exploring Haarlem, Amsterdam and many other cities.
