This Christmas, get ready for a beautiful family concert, streamed live from the majestic Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with the beloved classic, The Nutcracker on December 26. Christmas will be remarkably different this year, so why not fill it up with enchanting music, brought to you by world-class performers!

Stream The Nutcracker on December 26

Whether you call it St Stephen’s Day, Boxing Day or “Second Christmas” (Tweede Kerstdag) as the Dutch do, December 26 is a very significant day that we're all looking forward to. It’s, of course, a national holiday, which generally involves leftover turkey, binge-watching shows on Netflix, playing with new gadgets and having as much fun as possible.

Typical Christmas holidays usually involve perhaps a night out at the theatre, cinema or concert hall and multiple parties, but these fun activities have been called off in 2020. That's why this year, the entertainment comes to you! There’s as much joyful Christmas music as ever, just in a different format, so let’s make the most of it!

Stream The Nutcracker in the comfort of your living room on the day after Christmas! Tune in from 10.30am onwards and immerse yourself in one of the most timeless music masterpieces by Russian composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Once you have the link, you can watch the show on demand, so if you miss the show, no worries - you can watch this special performance whenever you like!

Artists performing The Nutcracker at Concertgebouw

The work was originally devised for a whole ballet company, but it is often performed with a narrator instead of dancers, which is the case with this version. It tells the story of young Clara who falls asleep under her Christmas tree. She wakes up to find that a gift someone has given her - a nutcracker in the shape of a toy soldier - has come to life, along with a Mouse King and other odd characters, who get up to all kinds of escapades!

The artists performing this live-streamed show are the Ballet Orchestra of the Dutch National Ballet, conducted by Sander Teepen, along with Maartje van de Wetering, as the narrator. The story is told in Dutch, so it’s ideal for kids who are learning Dutch, so they can keep the language learning going throughout the school holidays!
