The Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a code yellow weather warning for strong winds on the evening of Thursday, February 22. Winds of up to 105 kilometres per hour are expected to blow through the Netherlands and could also bring heavy rain showers.

Strong winds expected for the Netherlands

While the weather has been quite mild for this time of year, it is going to become more stormy as we go into Thursday evening. As it stands, the KNMI has issued a code yellow weather warning for strong winds across the whole of the Netherlands from 5pm until midnight, with the strongest winds to reach coastal areas.

Heavy wind gusts of around 85 km / h could blow inland and, on the coast, winds could reach 105 km / h. According to KNMI, the strong winds could cause disruptions to outdoor activities and traffic, including public transport.

Rain also expected for Thursday in the Netherlands

Thursday starts off dry but it is set to start raining later in the morning and will continue throughout the day. Heavy rain showers are expected to pass over the country in the late afternoon as the wind begins to increase. So far, it's forecast to rain throughout the evening, and will only start to dissipate during the night into Friday.
