ProRail has announced that the next phase of renovations at Amsterdam Centraal Station is set to begin this week. As a result, for the first time ever there will be no trains running to, from or via the train station in Amsterdam on Saturday, June 29 and there will be limited train traffic from June 30 to July 1.

Train traffic at Amsterdam Centraal Station affected by renovations

The renovations at Amsterdam Centraal Station will affect train traffic on various dates in the coming weeks. Not only will there be no train traffic through the Amsterdam train station on June 29, but on June 30 there will also be no trains running between Amsterdam Muiderpoort and Weesp. Limited trains will run between Amsterdam Centraal and Sloterdijk on June 30 and July 1. An adjusted timetable will run for international trains which will not stop at Amsterdam Centraal Station during this three-day period.

In the lead-up to the closure of the station on Saturday, there will be fewer trains running between Utrecht and Amsterdam, and Enkhuizen and Amsterdam on June 24 to 28. Another route affected by the renovations is between Amsterdam and Hilversum / Almere with fewer trains running from July 2 to 7.

Detour routes will be used for travellers during these periods. Passengers can use rail replacement buses or transfer to the metro or other buses. The NS warns those using public transport to consult the travel planner and take additional travel time into account.

Renovations at Amsterdam Centraal Station

The number of train passengers passing through Amsterdam Centraal is expected to increase from 200.000 to 275.000 travellers per day by 2030. For this reason, renovations are being made to the station to create more space for the growing number of commuters and the higher number of trains needed to transport them.

During the renovations, walking routes through the station will also be impacted with the eastern passage tunnel being closed. The lifts in the western passenger tunnel are still accessible and can be reached via the IJ. Passengers should plan to add extra walking time into their commute.
