The University of Amsterdam (UvA) has the highest ranking of all Dutch universities in five fields of study according to the global QS World University Rankings by Subject (July 5).

The five fields of study are:
›  Linguistics (22nd place worldwide)
›  Sociology (33rd place worldwide)
›  Philosophy (37th place worldwide)
›  Geography (40th place worldwide)
›  Science (47th place worldwide)

Moreover, the UvA is in the top 50 for the disciplines Economics & Econometrics and Accountancy & Finance, which rank 44th and 45th place respectively. This means that the UvA ranks in the international top-50 in seven fields of study.

QS rated fields of study within the categories:
› Social Sciences
› Engineering & Technology
› Life Sciences & Medicine
› Natural Science
› Arts and Humanities

Of the 21 UvA disciplines studied, 20 rank in the top 100.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject are based on academic reputation, employer reputation, and research citations. The weighting of these three criteria varies per field of study.

The overall annual World University Rankings compiled by QS will appear later this year.
