Running season is in full swing, with various events taking place across the country for people who like legging it. Runners can add another race to their calendars as registrations have opened for a 7,5-kilometre run on A10 ring road as part of the celebrations for Amsterdam’s 750th birthday.
The year-long party to celebrate Amsterdam’s milestone birthday began in October last year, but several exciting events are yet to come. One of the highlights is bound to be the festival called Op de Ring (On the Ring), where 15 kilometres of the A10 highway will be filled with music, theatre, dance and now sports.
On June 21, 2025, to mark the start of the festival in Amsterdam, running enthusiasts can enjoy a 7,5-kilometre route on the highway. It will start at exit S113 Watergraafsmeer, make a loop over the A2 and end at the RAI Amsterdam. Throughout the route, there will be DJs playing beats to keep runners motivated and spectators to cheer them on.
Organised by Elevation Group Run and Le Champion, which is known for other running events like the Dam tot Damloop and Zandvoort Circuit Race, the Run Op de Ring can also be run for charity. Registrations for the event have been open since April 3.
While the full programme for the festival Op de Ring will only be announced on May 21, Dutch residents have gotten a sneak peek at what the day will have in store. From weddings on the highway to a temporary forest, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
