Hitched on the highway: Amsterdam couples can marry on the A10 next June

By Simone Jacobs

Amsterdam’s year-long party to celebrate the city’s 750th birthday kicked off in October this year with an opening concert, and more surprises are yet to come. As part of the festivities, the Dutch capital has offered couples the chance to tie the knot on the A10 ring road during a festival in June 2025.

Amsterdam 750 celebrates love with weddings on A10

On June 21, 2025, the municipality of Amsterdam is hosting a huge festival called Op de Ring (On the Ring) to celebrate the city’s birthday. Not only will 15 kilometres of the A10 motorway be filled with music, sports, theatre, dance and more, but a section will also be turned into a car-free wedding venue.

City officiants will perform ceremonies for people who want to get married or register their partnerships free of charge in either Dutch or English, with the only caveat being that the lovebirds need to be already registered with the municipality of Amsterdam. According to the city, “couples can expect a festive wedding location with space for their guests.”

Getting married during Amsterdam 750 party on the Ring

If getting married in a unique location with a big party to enjoy afterwards sounds like your dream wedding day, then this opportunity could be just the thing. Couples who want to say “I do” on the Ring need to apply by filling out a form on the Amsterdam 750 website before December 1, 2024.

There are only a limited number of ceremonies that can be performed in one day so if there is a large number of applications, a notary will randomly select couples and announce the results in early 2025.
