Corendon has announced this week that, from November of this year, the airline is offering tickets in kids-free zones on its flights between the Netherlands and Curacao.
Going on holiday can be an exciting time - but it can also be tiring and stressful, depending on the situation. While packing your family up to head somewhere new for a couple of days or weeks over the school holidays is a highlight for many parents every year, it can come with the concern over how your children may behave on the flight, and whether you’ll have to contend with any childless travellers who are grumpy about having to share space with potentially noisy children for an extended period of time.
A new initiative launched by one airline may go some way in reducing this stress for parents (or relieving childless travellers who dread being sat next to young children on long-haul flights). Starting November 2023, Corendon has announced it will have kids-free zones on flights between Schiphol Airport and Curacao.
How will this work, exactly? Corendon Airlines explains that planes will have a screened-off Adult-only zone at the front of the aircraft, with the idea being that the seating will act as a partial replacement for business class, which the airline does not offer.
Tickets will only be available to travellers aged 16 and above, and will cost passengers an additional 45 euros per ticket. There will be a total of 102 seats in this area, nine of which also offer passengers additional legroom - although booking one of these will cost a little extra.
While Corendon is not the first international airline to introduce such a system, it’s believed to be the first to do so in the Netherlands. Other Dutch airlines such as KLM, TUI and Transavia aren’t likely to follow suit, with a spokesperson for TUI telling RTL Nieuws that "many families go on holiday by plane in the summer.”
