Summer is coming early as the weather in the Netherlands hots up this week, with highs of 26 degrees celsius forecast for Thursday, May 1.
It’s going to be a week of warm and sunny weather, according to the latest forecast from the KNMI. The temperature is set to climb throughout the week, reaching a high point on Thursday.
Cloudless skies, plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures are on the cards, with the thermometer expected to hit highs of 22 degrees on Tuesday, and 26 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. It will be slightly cooler along the coast, but still as high as 23 degrees.
This means that May 1 is likely to be the first “official” day of summer, counted as when temperatures at the De Bilt KNMI measuring station reach 25 degrees. This is a few weeks earlier than when summer typically starts on May 16.
If you’re out and about enjoying the sunny weather, then do take care as the sun will be particularly strong. The expected UV index of 5 means that you could catch a sunburn in as little as 25 minutes without any sun protection.
The temperature will dip a little as we head into the long weekend (in case you’ve forgotten, Monday is a national holiday in the Netherlands, as Liberation Day is marked with a public holiday every five years). There will be a mixture of sun and clouds, but we’re still looking at high temperatures between 14 and 19 degrees.
