Course information

Have you ever been curious about the fascinating world of pollinators? Now is your chance to dive in and discover all about these incredible creatures in this Buzzing Bees course!

The 7,5-hour hands-on course is taught in English and is designed for anyone who wants to learn about honeybees, solitary bees, and other important pollinators. Whether you're passionate about nature or considering beekeeping as a hobby, this course will provide you with a strong foundation to get started.

Under the guidance of an experienced natural city beekeeping teacher, you'll explore the world of bees through an interactive experience, where you can see, feel, smell, and even taste the products bees create, such as pollen, wax, honey, and propolis.

What you’ll learn

The introductory class will include:

  • A deep dive into the lives of honeybees, solitary bees, bumblebees, wasps, hornets and more.
  • The important role bees play in city environments, including their contribution to urban biodiversity.
  • A look at the current state of bees, including challenges like colony collapse disorder.
  • Beekeeping basics, including essential tools, different hive types, and maintenance tips.
  • The variety of bee products and their medicinal uses, from honey to propolis.

This course is perfect for beginners who want to get a solid understanding of the world of pollinators. You’ll not only gain knowledge but also learn how to contribute to the protection of these vital creatures. After having completed this course, you will know everything that is required to start Practical Beekeeping Training, or help pollinating insects by, for example, building bee- or bumblebee hotels.

About the WellBeeing Foundation

The Wellbeeing Foundation is a community of natural beekeepers and friends dedicated to protecting bees and pollinators, while raising awareness about their vital role in sustaining ecosystems. Their mission is to create a world where bees thrive, communities actively support pollinators, and bee welfare is recognised as essential to environmental health. Through increased nectar and pollen availability, education, and natural beekeeping practices, they are working towards a future where humans and bees coexist in harmony.

They prioritise environmental sustainability and biodiversity, recognising that bees are the heartbeat of ecosystems. By empowering individuals and communities with comprehensive education on the importance of pollinators and plants, they inspire impactful action for bee welfare. Their natural, biodynamic beekeeping methods enable bees to express their natural behaviours, strengthening their immune systems and embracing natural selection.

What the WellBeeing Foundation does:

  • Natural and biodynamic beekeeping: They care for bee colonies in 5 locations around Amsterdam.
  • Creating bee-friendly environments: They provide nesting spaces, nectar, and pollen for pollinators through bee hotels and planting initiatives.
  • Educating and empowering individuals: They share knowledge through various theoretical and practical beekeeping courses.
  • Raising awareness: They encourage individuals and companies to connect with their honeybees through team-building experiences
