Dutch Flamenco Biennial Online

Dutch Flamenco Biennial returns for its eighth edition from January 22 until February 7, 2021. Every other year, the celebration of contemporary flamenco captivates the Netherlands for prolific performances in this spectacular Spanish dance genre.

Flamenco tradition and innovation

Innovative dancers, major flamenco stars and young up-and-coming talents combine old traditions and innovative choreography. In 2021, remote audiences can bask in contemporary flamenco dance that wanders into the worlds of jazz, classical, Baroque and Oriental music via online streaming from Bimhuis and Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam.

Typically, the flamenco performances take place in over 25 different venues across nine Dutch cities, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, Eindhoven, Maastricht, Groningen and Amersfoort, where flamenco enthusiasts can choose from over 50 performances. There's usually also a fringe programme of masterclasses, workshops, lectures, artist talks, films and documentaries, children's performances and flamenco yoga classes.

The 2021 edition will certainly be a lot different, with the programme pared down to its essentials, but on the plus side, geography will not be an issue, since audiences can tune in from the comfort of home.

The online performances have a touch of class, being streamed from two of the leading venues in Amsterdam. The venues are:

  • Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam
  • Bimhuis, Amsterdam
