[Video] The expansion of Amsterdam in the 17th century

Mar 29, 2014

The Amsterdam City Archives has just released this fascinating animation on the growth of Amsterdam during the Golden Age of the 17th century.

It shows you when the Grachtengordel (canal belt) was formed, new islands reclaimed from the sea and famous landmarks built as the city started to take on the shape we are familiar with today.

Enjoy watching the growth of this beautiful city, much of which is still here today.
