Due to planned work on the tracks at and around Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, disruptions are expected as fewer trains will run to and from the station from November 8 until November 10, and for 21 days from November 16 until December 3.

Limited train traffic to and from Schiphol Airport train station

NS and ProRail have announced that due to major track maintenance in November, the train timetable for trains running to and from Schiphol will be adjusted. There will be limited train traffic around the Dutch airport on two weekends in particular: November 8 to November 10 and November 29 to December 1. On these dates, no trains will run between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Zuid, and only half of the normal train traffic will run in other directions.

According to NS, there will also be far fewer trains travelling to, from and via Schiphol from November 16 until December 3. Journeys to and from Almere, Utrecht, The Hague, Amersfoort and Amsterdam could also be affected.

Due to this, the Dutch railway company urges passengers to use the NS travel planner and aim to travel during off-peak periods as trains face delays and crowds are expected. Replacement buses will be available and trains will be made longer where possible.

Major maintenance planned around Schiphol Airport

As part of ProRail’s long-term project dubbed "Major Maintenance Schiphol", the Dutch railway operator will use 21 days to renovate tracks and complete work on the railway tunnel at Schiphol Airport.

The airport in Amsterdam is one of the busiest hubs for both public transport and air travel. According to ProRail, this is why major maintenance is necessary to ensure the tracks last for many years to come. “We started it in 2022 and will be working here until 2028,” explained ProRail. More disruptions are possible in 2025 as ProRail continues to work on the tracks.
