Trains around Amsterdam and Schiphol face disruptions from January 10

By Simone Jacobs

With more maintenance work planned for the tracks around Schiphol and Amsterdam, train disruptions are expected from January 10 to 13. Dutch railway company NS advises travellers to check the travel planner in advance.

Fewer trains to and from Schiphol Airport

From Friday to Sunday, ProRail will continue with renovation work on the track around Schiphol Airport as part of a major maintenance project. While the work is being carried out, platforms 4,5 and 6 will be unavailable and fewer trains will be running.

This weekend is only the first of many maintenance periods planned for this year that could cause disruptions. According to ProRail, trains around the Dutch airport will also be affected on the following dates:

  • January 25-27
  • February 1-3
  • February 8-10
  • March 12-27
  • November 1-3
  • November 15-December 6

Limited train traffic around Amsterdam

At the same time as the rail disruptions around Schiphol, there will also be work done on the tracks between Amsterdam Muiderpoort and Weesp. Due to this, there will be very limited train traffic on this route on January 11 and 12.

Anyone travelling between Amersfoort and Amsterdam or Hilversum and Amsterdam can travel through Duivendrecht.

Later this month, train traffic to and from Amsterdam Zuid will also see disruptions. From January 18 to 26, maintenance work will be carried out closing two tracks. The result will be fewer trains running, which could result in delays.

With many additional improvements planned for the public transport services around Amsterdam Centraal this year, NS and ProRail suggest that train passengers keep an eye on the travel planner to stay up to date on the latest information.
