Power failure on Schiphol train route on Tuesday
ProRail reported that a power failure occurred at 3.45am on Tuesday, June 24. The cause is believed to be a fire of unknown origin in several cables and is being investigated.
As the Dutch railway company repairs the damaged cables, no trains are running between Schiphol and Utrecht and Amsterdam until 6pm. The NS recommends that passengers affected travel to Amsterdam Sloterdijk, Zuid or Lelylaan by metro and take a bus to Schiphol from there
Train traffic between Rotterdam and Breda, and Leiden and The Hague has also been affected by the disruption, so some delays can be expected. Travellers are advised to get further updates on travel information from the NS travel planner.
Train traffic disrupted amid NATO travel chaos
With Tuesday and Thursday being popular office days for workers in the Netherlands, roads and public transport are usually quite busy. Additionally, residents have been advised to use public transport on June 24 and 25, if they can’t work from home, due to road closures for the NATO summit.
While Monday saw 200 kilometres of traffic jams on Dutch highways, Tuesday has fortunately been less busy on the roads, reports NOS. According to the NS, the power outage has not resulted in any additional crowding at the affected train stations.
