After a few days of gorgeous sun and high temperatures, it’s safe to say that it feels like summer in the Netherlands, even though it’s only spring! But make the most of it, as it is not here to stay.

Sunny Dutch weather

The warm, sunny weather in the Netherlands won’t be here forever unfortunately, and is forecast to stay with us until the evening of Wednesday, May 9. Up until then it’s clear skies and perfect ice-cream weather.

On Tuesday, May 8, the sun will be shining the whole day, from early in the morning until late in the evening. Temperatures won’t be disappointing either, with the thermometer reaching highs of about 26-28C inland.

In North Brabant and Limburg temperatures may even reach a whopping 29C! These temperatures are unusually high for this time of year, as midday temperatures are often around 14-18C at the start of May.

Even the evening on Tuesday, May 8, will be pleasant, with temperatures of approximately 25C estimated at 8pm. During the night, it will cool down to around 8C inland.

According to Weerplaza, we may even be able to see the Eta Aquariids meteor shower due to the clear skies at night. Around six to eight meteors will be visible per hour just above the horizon in a southeastern direction.

On Wednesday, May 9, temperatures of 25-27C inland are forecasted, but unlike the previous day with clear skies, clouds are expected to form and during the evening and night, the likelihood of thunderstorms will increase.

Temperatures to drop in the Netherlands

Don’t go getting used to the hot weather just yet, as on Thursday, May 10 (Ascension Day), temperatures are set to drop by around 10 degrees. A strong wind will also have it feeling much cooler than the previous days.

In the centre of the country, temperatures will reach around 14-15C and the northeast will enjoy temperatures of 17C at best. Despite the cooler temperatures, the sun will still be shining, although a few showers can be expected.

The days after Ascension Day will be cloudy with frequent periods of sunshine, possibility of rain showers and temperatures of around 16-20C inland. Because of a western wind, we can forget about summer temperatures for the time being.
