After keeping prices the same in 2022, PostNL has announced that the prices for parcel shipping and postage stamps will increase as of January 2023.

PostNL increases prices for domestic and international shipping

While the coronavirus pandemic led to booming business for the delivery company, the past few months have once again seen PostNL experience a drop in the number of letters and packages that are being sent in the post. The company argues that the price hikes are “inevitable,” largely as a result of this fall in “postal volumes” and the high rate of inflation.

“PostNL seeks to keep mail reliable, accessible and affordable for all our customers, so we constantly aim to increase our efficiency,” explains Bob van Ierland, Director of Mail in the Netherlands. “At the same time, our costs keep rising, driven by inflation amongst other factors. Hence this moderate but necessary increase in our prices.”

The Netherlands sees stamp prices rise above the 1-euro mark

From January 1, 2023, PostNL will increase its prices for both national and international shipping. The basic rate for letters sent abroad will rise from 1,55 euros to 1,65 euros, while the price of domestic stamps will rise above the 1 euro mark for the first time in history, from the current rate of 0,96 euros to 1,01 euros.

The price of PostNL’s so-called December stamps that go on sale in November will remain unchanged, at 0,91 euros per stamp. Meanwhile, the price for sending a package domestically via one of the many PostNL points in the Netherlands will rise from 7,25 euros to 7,65 euros.
