Queen Maxima’s sister dies aged 33
Queen Maxima, of the Dutch Royal Family, has decided to cancel her public appearances in the coming days in light of the terrible news that her sister has passed away. Understandably, the Queen is shocked and very upset.
Dutch Queen’s sister found dead
Inés Zorreguieta was found dead in her apartment in Buenos Aires yesterday night. She was only 33 years old. According to the Netherlands Government Information Service (RVD), suicide is suspected.
Maxima’s youngest sister suffered from an eating disorder and depression. Her death comes 10 months after the death of Maxima’s father Jorge Zorreguieta, who died at the age of 89 from cancer.
Cancelled appearances
As can be expected, the Queen has cancelled public appearances, such as the opening of Holland Festival at Westergasfabriek, Amsterdam, and the opening of the proton-therapy centre at the university hospital in Groningen (UMCG).
The RVD reports that Maxima will also be absent from three state visits to Baltic countries. King Willem-Alexander will make these visits alone.
