NS cancels all trains between The Hague and Leiden until Monday

Consider yourself warned: if you’ve got any plans to travel between The Hague and Leiden via public transport this week, you might want to reconsider, as Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has cancelled all trains between the two cities as a result of maintenance work on the tracks.

Prorail carrying out maintenance work on track

Between October 27 and October 30, ProRail - a government organisation that takes care of maintenance and extensions of the national railway network infrastructure - will be carrying out extensive work on part of the track.

This planned maintenance is set to have a significant impact on train travel in the area, bringing rail services between the cities to a complete standstill for four days. NS will be running rail replacement bus services instead and has warned travellers to prepare for large crowds and delays of around 45 minutes, specifically during rush hour.

No trains running between Leiden and The Hague

From Thursday through to Sunday, no trains will be running between:

  • Leiden Central Station and The Hague Central Station
  • Leiden Central Station and The Hague HS
  • The Hague Central Station and The Hague HS (affecting rail connections between The Hague and Rotterdam)

Travellers have been advised to plan their journeys using the NS app or website, and recommended that anyone who needs to make the trip for work or other urgent matters travel via Gouda or Woerden instead.
