Choosing the right school is always about more than academic success, and for expat families it can be even more important to find a school with a welcoming, friendly and nurturing environment. Attending school in a new country is not an easy thing to do, and American School of The Hague (ASH) ensures that they enable their students to thrive, academically, socially, and culturally.

Excellence across the board

American School of The Hague is a leading international school that welcomes students from over 70 different nationalities. This vibrant mix of cultures creates a diverse community that helps prepare children for living in today's interconnected world.

Book your visit to American School of The Hague today.

From the ages of three to 18, the school offers rigorous, student-centred programming that consistently outperforms national and international benchmarks, preparing students for success.

A dual-language pathway

Growing up in the Netherlands as an international can involve a balancing act between languages - what is spoken at home, at school and with friends may all differ. For those interested and who have children in kindergarten or grade 1, American School of The Hague offers a Dutch-English dual language pathway. This unique programme gives bilingual learning that is aligned with the school's curriculum.

Led by native Dutch and English-speaking teachers, students begin with primarily Dutch instruction, gradually integrating English as they progress. This approach helps develop strong literacy in both languages, while also helping strong student communities grow. Students who take part in the Dual Language Pathway are active members of the Early Childhood Center community - a hub of curiosity, collaboration and outdoor learning.

In addition to the Dual Language Pathway, all students at the school benefit from expert Dutch instruction, so they can integrate into their local community and expand their options and opportunities when applying to Dutch universities.

Hands-on learning for creative thinkers

American School of The Hague combines academic rigour with hands-on experiences. There is a strong focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), which helps students develop their skills of critical thinking, problem-solving and innovation. State-of-the-art facilities, one of the country’s top robotics teams, and a variety of courses across the curriculum allow students to apply knowledge in real-world contexts, such as a recent design challenge with Ikea, which prepares them for tomorrow's challenges.

Given the school’s proximity to many of the region’s international institutions, there is a strong emphasis on peace and diplomacy. Whether through a school-wide focus on community and social-emotional learning or broad participation in The Hague International Model United Nations and local and global service-learning projects, students learn what is needed to become active citizens and address world issues.

Creativity is central to the school’s visual and performing arts programme. Students express themselves through painting, music, theatre and design, building confidence and collaboration. Student work is showcased through plays and musicals, concerts, galleries, and even an annual school-wide celebration of creative expression, where campus is transformed into a living art exhibit.

Internationally recognised academic excellence

American School of The Hague is the only school in the Netherlands to offer both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and the Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum. Recently, ASH students achieved the highest average IB scores in the Netherlands, reflecting the school's commitment to getting the best from each student.

These two internationally recognised pathways are designed to ensure students leave fully prepared and able to attend top-tier universities worldwide, and personalised counselling is offered to support them on their post-high school journey.

Outside the classroom, students can enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities, competitive athletics and leadership opportunities that build confidence, teamwork and lifelong skills.
