Drivers in the Netherlands have been ranked as the eighth-friendliest in the world in the 2025 ranking by AutoTrader.
To determine which countries have calmer, happier and more agreeable drivers, AutoTrader asked 3.200 people from 16 countries to rate themselves on how friendly they are while on the road. Using a section from the Big 5 Personality Test, traits such as kindness, empathy and cooperativeness were measured. Drivers also had to admit to any uncourteous driving behaviour, such as honking, tailgating, obscene gestures and verbal aggression.
These factors were then used to calculate a “Friendly Driving Score” between one and 40, with 40 being the most agreeable. Results showed that the United Kingdom has the friendliest drivers in the world with a score of 35,40. Australia and New Zealand followed closely behind to round out the top three.
With an overall score of 32,88, the Netherlands took the eighth spot in the ranking for the world’s friendliest drivers. As Dutch drivers are used to sharing the road with cyclists, they tend to be more courteous and respectful of others on the road.
The compactness of Dutch cities and public transport are also cited as reducing stress and “promoting a friendly attitude among its drivers”.
In all, here are the countries with the most agreeable drivers in the world:
