About the performance

During Julidans, Gregory Maqoma will perform Exit / Exist, a dynamic mix of classical ballet and tribal dance. The dance will be accompanied by live music by four exceptional African singers and the Italian guitarist Giuliano Modarelli.

In Exit / Exist, Maqoma reinvigorates tradition and animates ancestral memories to understand the complexities of our contemporary world. He fuses traditional movement with his own unparalleled contemporary dance, spirited live music and lyrical text, all against a rich visual landscape by Nicholas Hlobo.
