The days are short, the nights are long and many feel the urge to take a winter break, so what better time to do so than at the first festival of the year: Overwinteren on Saturday, February 22 in Amsterdam.
This festival sees the post-Christmas period - a typical time for feeling the winter blues - as the perfect time to celebrate. The holidays may be over and the Dutch weather may still be less than ideal, but that doesn't mean that it's not the perfect time to have some fun and dance your Saturday away!
After the resounding success of the previous edition, Overwinteren promises to be as brilliant as before. Imagine mulled wine at a winter market, stalls selling Dutch snacks and decorated stages and tents where musical gatherings happen.
Cosy festival tents at Overwinteren Festival
The winter does not have to mean feeling cold and chilly: the stages are situated in cosy festival tents, where the heat draws you in and the unstoppable energy invites you to dance. This year, NDSM-Plein is the venue of choice that will be transformed into a dance paradise.
Walking around the festival grounds, you can expect to encounter inviting atmospheric corners where you can mingle, eat, drink and dance. It’s as though Amsterdam were ready for the yearly festival season to start – but why not in February? Why should we wait for another season?
