25 years of Delft Chamber Music Festival

The Delft Chamber Music Festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary this summer. Artistic director and pianist Nino Gvetadze is inviting world-class musicians to come together and give concerts against the historic backdrop of Delft and its surroundings. Enjoy superb concert experiences in summery and intimate settings.

Like last year, the diversity of concerts is great, ranging from well-known to brand new chamber music repertoire, a late-night concert, a family concert, the "Scratch Concert" (in which you can participate yourself), a multidisciplinary performance and an open air concert. Additionally, there's the Delft Festival Academy, a masterclass programme designed to encourage the next generation of top musicians.

Highlights of Delft Chamber Music Festival 2022 - People and Stories

The theme of the 25th anniversary edition of the Delft Chamber Music Festival is "People and Stories". The musicians will attempt to look at the person behind the composer and their stories from both on and offstage.

Of course, during the festival much attention is paid to chamber music: both well-known and less frequently performed compositions by, for example, Ekaterina Walter-Kühne and Nodar Gabunia.

Multidisciplinary Maro programme

In the multidisciplinary Maro programme, Nino Gvetadze works together with composer, pianist, writer and draftsman Thomas Beijer and dramaturg Klaus Bertisch. The performance tells the story of the young Georgian heroine Maro Makashvili (1901–1921), who was hit by shrapnel and died two days after volunteering to join the Georgian regiment as a nurse. Her diary was later published as a book. She was named National Hero of Georgia in 2017.

Wonderland

In the enchanting concert Wonderland, impressionistic music and unique projections are combined into a fairytale-like performance. Nino Gvetadze (piano), Daniel Rowland (violin) and Maja Bogdanovic (cello) will perform works by Debussy, Cyrill Scott and Ravel.

A world premiere at the Anniversary Concert

On July 29, the world premiere of a piece by Eka Chabashvili will take place during the Anniversary Concert, performed by Nino Gvetadze and the former artistic directors Isabelle van Keulen and Liza Ferschtman.

Meccore String Quartet with a narrator in Oude Kerk

In the Oude Kerk, Haydn's work Die Siebe letzte Wörte will be performed and recited by a narrator and the Meccore String Quartet.

Delft Festival Academy nurturing up-and-coming musicians

As well as concerts by established music professionals, there is also encouragement given to the next generation of musicians. That's why during the Delft Festival Academy, young musicians take part in a masterclass programme that culminates in a concert.
