If you’re planning on a weekend getaway, or just travelling via Schiphol this weekend, be forewarned that you might have to add some extra travel time to your journey. Rail replacement buses will be running instead of trains.

Railworks at Schiphol airport

Starting Thursday, January 17, ProRail will be carrying out works to the train tracks around Schiphol Airport. Schiphol will still be accessible on the route Schiphol Airport – Leiden from Thursday, January 17, until Sunday, January 20, but not by train. You will have to get a rail replacement bus instead. Another change, which is important to note, is that the Intercity direct will not be running on the Amsterdam Central – Rotterdam route.

During the weekend, January 19 and 20, Schiphol will be completely inaccessible by train. Buses will thus be deployed on the routes Amsterdam Zuid / Amsterdam Sloterdijk – Schiphol Airport and Diemen Zuid – Duivendrecht.

Help with your luggage

Carrying heavy bags? NS porters will give passengers who switch trains at Amsterdam Sloterdijk station or Schiphol Airport a helping hand with their luggage. If you are planning on catching a plane, or you just don’t want to be late to work, make sure you plan your journey ahead of time as you can expect 15 to 45 minutes of extra travel time.
