NS to run more frequent, longer trains for King’s Day 2024

Dutch public transport provider NS will run longer and more frequent trains on King’s Day in 2024. The national holiday, which is celebrated all over the country, will take place on Saturday, April 27.

More NS staff will be on duty on King’s Day

More staff will be helping the Dutch transport provider to run its special Oranjedienstregeling service on the big day. Around 200.000 people are expected to travel to and from Amsterdam by train to enjoy the celebrations, and others all around the country are expected to travel to a number of other Dutch cities to celebrate the occasion.

One of the hotspots this year is set to be in Emmen, where the King and the Dutch royal family will be celebrating the big day. NS has called for passengers to make their travel a fun trip for the staff onboard trains and in Dutch train stations as well as for themselves, especially at a time when train workers are facing a growing number of violent attacks.

A number of Amsterdam stations set to be closed on King’s Day

A number of stations in the Dutch capital are set to be closed on King’s Day - these include Amsterdam Science Park and Amsterdam RAI, but Amsterdam Centraal Station will be open as usual. There will be more trains travelling to Arnhem, Breda, The Hague, Eindhoven, Groningen, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Zwolle.

The day before King’s Day, Koningsnacht, will also see some extended trains and more frequent services in major Dutch cities. Travellers going to and from Utrecht, The Hague, and Rotterdam can expect to find more frequent and longer trains transporting them from city to city on the evening of April 26.
