Due to scheduled maintenance works by ProRail, there will be no trains running between Amsterdam stations and Schiphol Airport on Tuesday August 2.

NS has announced that from 1.15am on August 2 to 5.20am on August 3, there will be no rail services on the following routes:
› Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam Sloterdijk

› Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam Zuid - Amsterdam RAI - Duivendrecht - Diemen Zuid

› Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam Zuid - Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA

Along these lines train services will be replaced by NS buses. Travellers are advised to factor in an increased travel time of 15 to 45 minutes.

Longer maintenance for Amsterdam Zuid rail line

The rail lines around Amsterdam Zuid station will undergo additional maintenance work that will halt all rail services from Monday August 1 to Tuesday, August 9.

This applies to the following lines:
› Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam Zuid - Amsterdam RAI - Duivendrecht - Diemen Zuid

› Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam Zuid - Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA

Over this period NS buses will be covering these routes instead of trains, with longer travel times expected.

You can check all upcoming engineering work on the NS maintenance page (in Dutch). You can also plan your trip using Dutch transport apps to check if your travel time may be affected.

UberTREIN launched as travel alternative

Uber is making use of the interrupted train scheduling to introduce UberTREIN, a new service where Amsterdam passengers can use Uber taxis to travel to or from Schiphol on August 2 for 16,80 euros, the same price per seat as a train ticket (based on four seats at a rate of 4,20 euros).

UberTREIN will also cover the Amsterdam Zuid route between August 1-9 by providing a 5 euro discount to users who enter the promotional code "UBERTREIN2016".

Other summer maintenance works

Dutch rail lines are not the only infrastructure undergoing repairs this August.

Amsterdam’s IJtunnel is closed for a six week maintenance period, from July 15 to August 29, affecting cars and public transport travelling to and from Amsterdam Noord.

Are you aware of any other summer transport maintenance scheduled this summer? Let us know in the comments below.
