From today, public transport users can apply for NS Flex, a new service which allows travellers to pay for their public transport use at the end of the month, instead of having to top up their OV-chipkaart when it’s empty.

How it works

NS Flex applies to all forms of public transport for which you need an OV-chipkaart, such as the bus, train, metro, tram and NS bike. You can sign up for NS Flex on the NS website. At the end of each month, you will receive a bill for the trips you have made. This amount will be automatically deducted from your bank account.

NS Flex costs

Travellers who have a subscription will have to pay, at most, one euro per month extra. Travellers who do not have a subscription will have to pay a one-time fee of 10 euros to cover the costs of the service.

Upcoming features

At the moment, you can check your total costs online, at any time. Furthermore, NS is working on an automatic notification for when travellers exceed a predetermined amount.
