NL-Alert issued as smoke reaches Amsterdam from fire in Middenbeemster

Several NL Alerts have been sent out to Dutch residents due to a very large fire at a former distribution centre in Middenbeemster on Thursday. Smoke from the fire can be smelled all the way in Amsterdam, so residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed.
Dutch mobile alerts for fire in Middenbeemster
The fire at the building previously used as a distribution centre for the Dutch supermarket chain Plus broke out just before 2am on Thursday, June 19, reports NOS. Due to the heavy amount of smoke produced by the fire, which is moving over the A7 motorway and several residential areas, the area has been closed off, and mobile alerts have been issued to people nearby.
Emergency services expect to be battling the fire for most of the morning. Businesses in the area will remain inaccessible for some time, and nearby schools will be closed.
The most recent update at 9.46am assured informed residents that they could go outside if they couldn’t see or smell smoke, but to pay attention to further updates on the situation.
Smoke from Middenbeemster fire reaches Amsterdam
The smell of smoke has reached Amsterdam, some 30 kilometres away. Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed and to remain inside if smoke is visible.
Firefighting teams from several other regions were deployed to help extinguish the fire due to its size. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
