2020 is well underway, which also means the most popular names given to newborns in 2019 has been finalised. And the winners are, drum roll, please… Noah for boys and Emma for girls.

Noah and Emma reign supreme

Last year, up until November, more than 169.000 babies were born in the Netherlands: 86.653 boys and 82.563 girls. According to figures from social insurance bank SVB (Sociale Verzekeringsbank), which pays out child benefit, 785 boys born last year were named Noah and 731 girls were given the name Emma.

The name Mila came in second place for girls, with 671 newborn girls receiving the name. For boys, Daan was the second most popular with 717 baby boys being given that name. So, what about the names that came in first place in 2018? Well, Julia has dropped to fifth place and Lucas to third. Last year, 630 girls got the name Julia. 672 boys were named Lucas.
