The City of Amsterdam encourages people to buy electric cars by offering parking spots for free.

Under a plan started in 2009, electric car owners receive a parking space near their residence, a charging station installed by the city and free electricity from green sources (for example solar, wind and waste-based biomass).

200 charging posts have already been installed and 1.000 are on their way as the City of Amsterdam wants 5 percent of the cars in the city to be electric by 2015.
