According to the annual Top 100 City Destinations report by market researcher Euromonitor International, Amsterdam belongs to the 25 most visited cities in the world. The Dutch capital takes 23rd place.

Amsterdam popular travel destination

In 2018, 8,5 million people visited Amsterdam, 8 percent more than in 2017. A visitor is defined as an international tourist who stays in the city for more than 24 hours but not longer than 12 months. Those on a day-trip to the Dutch city are therefore not counted in the visitor number totals.

This year, Amsterdam is 23rd on the global ranking, having moved up four places since 2012. In terms of standing in Europe, Amsterdam comes 7th, behind London, Paris, Istanbul, Rome, Antalya and Prague. In Europe, the top 10 are as follows.
