The Hague CS to retain bike tower

By Carly Blair

The need for bicycle parking facilities around The Hague central station is expected to increase, partly due to an increase in the number of train passengers and the number of passengers on local routes.

The Municipality of The Hague and Dutch Railways expect to need about 11.400 bicycle parking spaces near The Hague Central station by 2020. Other large train stations are also anticipating increased demand for bike parking spots, such as Amsterdam (10.000 spaces needed by 2012), Rotterdam (7.000 by 2013) and Utrecht (23.000 by 2015).

The bicycle parking tower at the The Hague Central Station will therefore remain. The original plan was to remove the tower by the time the construction at the station is completed. Instead, by the time the public transport terminal as well as the underground bicycle parking facility are ready, the tower will have been expanded by 800 parking spaces to a capacity of 3.550 bicycles.
