Tenure track Assistant/Associate/Personal Professor Soft Matter

We are looking for an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Personal Professor (Tenure Track) in the field of soft matter chemistry and/or physics. We expect you to develop your own research line, to attract research funds for this line, and to build up a leading international position. The direction of your research activities is fairly open, but should be highly original, challenging, and complementary to existing expertise in our chair group. As a teacher, you are expected to guide and motivate our students - both at introductory and more advanced levels - and to develop new courses.


You are an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist and a team player, devoted to research and education in the field of soft matter chemistry and/or physics.

You also have:
  • a successfully completed academic study in physical chemistry, (bio)physics, chemical engineering, or comparable discipline (MSc level, recognized in the Netherlands);
  • a PhD in soft matter chemistry or physics, or a comparable discipline;
  • knowledge and expertise in polymer science, colloids, soft matter (theoretical and/or experimental);
  • outstanding research achievements and an excellent track record of publications in leading journals;
  • experience with management of complex projects;
  • experience with acquisition of research funding, as shown for example by awarded scholarships or grants;
  • excellent communication and collaboration skills;
  • an (international) network and the communication skills required for competitive (international) project acquisition;
  • didactic qualities and enthusiasm for teaching and working with students;
  • the ambition to develop to full professor in a Tenure Track system.

We offer you a challenging career trajectory called Tenure Track within the chair group Physical Chemistry and Soft Matter. This challenging career path starts at the level of assistant professor, from which you can grow into an associate professor and obtain ius promovendi. There is also the possibility to grow to personal professor. Depending on your experience and track record, you can enter at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Personal Professor. Of course, training and coaching are provided and interdisciplinary (international) cooperation is stimulated. As we will only be selecting outstanding candidates to take part in Tenure Track, this will be a good stepping stone to a further career within Wageningen University & Research or elsewhere.
We offer a temporary contract with the possibility of extension and finally a permanent position. The salary will depend on expertise and experience. Gross salary for Assistant Professors from € 3.475,-. to
€ 5.405,-. per month and for Associate Professors from € 4.851,-. to € 5.861,-. per month based on full time employment and depending on expertise and experience. In addition we offer an attractive benefits package with additional holiday (8%) and end- of-year bonus (8.3%), the ABP Pension scheme and training and career development. Applicants from abroad moving to the Netherlands may also qualify for a special tax relief, in which 30% of their salary is exempt from tax.
A start-up package, which includes funds for appointing temporary staff, is negotiable.
