King’s Day to take place on a Saturday in 2025

In 2025, the traditional date for King’s Day, April 27, falls on a Sunday. According to the Dutch Government Information Service (RVD), whenever the birthday of the ruling monarch falls on a Sunday, the festivities are moved to a day earlier.

This means that the Netherlands will celebrate King’s Day on Saturday, April 26 in 2025.

Doetinchem chosen as host for King’s Day 2025

Every year, a different Dutch municipality is chosen to host the main celebrations for the King and the royal family to attend on King’s Day. In 2025, the honour goes to Doetinchem in the province of Gelderland.

The big event is usually celebrated with many festivals throughout the country, boat parades and people dressed head to toe in orange. The programme for the day’s festivities will be announced at a later date.
