The 2024 Paris Olympics has officially ended and the Dutch team has finished in sixth position overall, returning home with a record 34 medals. Team Netherlands won 15 gold medals, 7 silver and 12 bronze.

The Netherlands wins a record number of gold medals

Heading to Paris with the biggest Dutch Olympic team yet seems to have paid off as the Netherlands not only walked away with more medals than they ever had before, but they also made history by winning a total of 15 gold medals. The Netherlands won gold medals in sports such as 3x3 basketball, hockey, marathon swimming, sailing, rowing, track cycling and athletics.

The biggest winner for Team NL was track cyclist Harrie Lavreysen who completed a golden hat trick, wracking up wins in the men’s team sprint, individual sprint and the keirin. Another memorable medal collection went to Sifan Hassan who earned a gold medal in the marathon, after winning two bronze medals in the 5.000 and 10.000 metres - the first time a woman has ever won medals in all three of these events.

Dutch Royal Family proud of the Netherlands’ Olympic team

On Sunday evening, in a message on social media, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima celebrated the performance of the Dutch Olympic team. “What a great performance of our TeamNL at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024,” said the Dutch Royals. “Beautiful matches and an overwhelming result. We are very proud of all participants and look forward to receiving the medal winners at Huis ten Bosch Palace!”

The Dutch monarchs will welcome the medal winners at the Royal Palace in The Hague on Tuesday, August 13, after the welcome home party for the athletes that took place in Scheveningen on Monday afternoon.
