About the opera

The enchantment of music and poetry plays a prime role in the story, which focuses on the singer Orpheus. Orpheus, who could move even stones to tears with his bewitching voice and string sounds, laments his deceased lover Euridice.

Amore, the God of Love, decides that the singer may bring her back from the Underworld under one condition: Orfeo may not look at Euridice until they have returned to the land of the living.
