[October 23] Thari – The Loom by Malavika Sarukkai
The highly esteemed award-winning dancer and choreographer Malavika Sarukkai presents this truly spectacular ensemble piece. Malavika Sarukkai is specialised in Bharatanatyam, and is celebrated for her originality, intelligence, technical mastery and lively movement vocabulary. In Thari – The Loom, Malavika Sarukkai is inspired by the sari, the traditional piece of clothing worn by women, focusing on both weaving and dancing.
[October 25, 26] A triple-bill by Rukmini Vijayakumar
Having achieved celebrity status in India, Rukmini Vijayakumar has her own take on Bharatanatyam, bringing this age-old dance form into a contemporary context. Two traditional Bharatanatyam dances are at the centre of this world premiere. This evening is presented in three different parts, with love as the central theme.
